I received the Halibut kit

I received the Halibut kit from Pacific Front Hobbies. Very fast, professional delivery. It's a bit smaller than I expected since I didn't do the match to figure what size a 1/350 kit of a big sub would be, but it's very very nicely molded. Now I have two tasks ahead of me]

      (I can't find an edit

(I can't find an edit button so I'm following up to my own post)

Does anyone know of a translation key or vendor for the paints used by Japanese sub kit vendors? The Pit Road kit, I think, maybe (since I don't read Japanese) seems to recommend colors G1, G3, G10, G22, G33, and G40. But I can't find any paint vendor that seems to use those type of part numbers or color codes.

      Thanks in advance.

        I have several color photos

I have several color photos of Halibut, along with a lot of B&Ws I got from the crew (as well as a set of plans). I didn't bother with closely following colors specified by manufacturers. Frankly, I match colors to photos by eye. Submarine are constantly dunked in salt water, so colors fade, etc. over time. So far I've built three of the PitRoad Halibuts, one for myself (SSGN) and the two for the crew reunion. The Spec Ops version took the most time, modifying the sail and building the diver lockout chamber (DSRV Simulator).

          Oh, and by the way...when

Oh, and by the way...when you put the two propellers on the kit, do not use the photo on page 188 of Friedman's "US Submarines since 1945". The picture is printed inverted left to right (or is it right to left...?).

Also, the kit scales very nicely to 1;350 scale. I have an entire set of 1]

              Robert, FYI,

On another submarine BB, we were talking about the ITC model Halibut. I had one as a kid but never got to actually take it out. It had a programmed dive operation that was controlled by the way you set a chain on a roller, if I recall. It would time the dive planes and the rudder. You could make it do a series of maneuvers, dive, circle, surface, circle, etc. Anyhow passing along this link, provided by Nick.

                Charlie/boatbuilder1,

                I've tried twice emailing

                Charlie/boatbuilder1,

I've tried twice emailing to you to request the pictures you mentioned you could send me for my buildup of the Pit Road Halibut in the spook boat configuration. I have a piece of basswood already to carve the taller sail. But my emails to you are being returned saying they've been in the queue too long so I'm posting my email here in phonetic configuration to avoid the spambots]http://www.subcommittee.com/forum/icon_smile.gif[/img]

                Thanks!
