Yet another Alfa question... - Masts hatches interior color

Looking at the excellent color photos of the Beluga published by Wayne Frey in dec. 2004 issue of the SCR, I noteiced that the internal part of the mast hatches in that experimental sub was painted red. I wonder if the same kind of paint was applied on the hactches of Alfas or other russian subs.

It would be a nice detail for a model if the hatches are painted red... In any case I would like to know the color of the internal side of the mast hatches in the Alfas and Akula SSNs.

    Thanks

I do not think the Alfa or Akula interior hatches are red.
Yesterday, I was watching my Akula DVD which showed close detail of the masts in operation. It seems like the answer is black. I am sure I would have remebered red. Next time I watch it, I will look.
The Beluga was a reaserch vessel. Color has a different priority than a combat vessel. If I were them, I would paint em black. No bright colors at sea.
I did notice Delta IV missile hatches are red on the inside. Possilbly all the better to see when open from the sail.

Good point! In the case of the missile hatches since there is not such a concern of visibility even if the missiles are fired while on surface...once they are fired camouflage is not something that would prevent your detection!

Ahhh! That famous DVD! Me want!!
