    On the cover of The Report,March issue 2005 is U-431 at commissiong.Could anybody tell me if on the forward end of the boat if that mast looking object is the H.F. antenna.And if it is why is it there,wasn`t it normally located on the port side of the c/t in a modified housing so that it could be retracted while submerged,was that a temporary thing or something new.

    If it's the same thing

    If it's the same thing I'm looking at, to port, just aft of the bow, it's the jack staff. It's "portable", meaning it's taken down and stored, after the boat get underway.
