    U.S.S. Kamehameha Colors

    Hi,

Does anyone know if U.S.S. Kamehameka was ever painted in the gray/black scheme or was she always all black? I have searched the web and was unable to find any definative answer.

    Thanks,

I would guess that the Kamehameha was always black (above center line, red anti-fouling below center line), as all working U.S. subs.

Actually for a period at the beginning of the FBM program, some of the boats were painted a light/medium gray on the vertical surfaces and black on the horizontal surfaces. I do not know how long it lasted before all of the boats changed to overall black, but I have heard the gray/black coloring sometimes called the Pacific or Pacific Fleet scheme. I understand that Kamehameha was based in Guam for a period of time, which is why I wonder if she ever was in these colors.

      Thanks for the answer though.
