I am looking for any pictures, plans, or any other information pertaining to a Russian Hotel class. Hotel I, I believe. Or whatever K-19 was. Any help is much appeciated.
Jonathan,
Try to Google 'Russian Sub Collier Point RI' and you should get info on K 19. I have a folder of pics taken at the museum, but you can probably get more info from the contacts at the museum.
The museum in Rhode Island that has the submarine from the movie does also have a picture cd avalible.
I met with the curator while at the subron last summer. Very friendly and showed me a lot.
There is a pretty fair amount of information avalible on this class of submarine.
[color=#000000]For the movie, they actually heavily modified (with fibreglass, from memory!) a diesel-electric Juliett class (Project 651, the one on display at RI) missile sub which was easily available to resemble the K-19. They actually did a pretty good job - it was a little short, but besides that it looked fairly decent. The real K-19 was a Hotel-I class (Project 658) nuclear missile sub.
For some good photos (including of the K-19 itself), check Hotel Class SSBN
Being such and old boat (but I like it!) it's pretty hard to come by info on it. There's almost nothing on the actual sub in the book "K-19]
I couldn't find a set of accurate plans for the Hotel class when I wanted to build one early last year... instead, there are some good typical drawings of the K-19 on the National Geographics website, I made a copy of those but decided to give up on the project in favour of a U-boat. The K-19 is a neat boat, with good resources, I think you can build a fairly accurate replica.
[color=#000000]My biggest problem when it comes to R/C modeling is that I want to build everything. So I decided to wait on the Snowberry and build a 1]
I agree with you on the wanting to build everything part. I guess this is true for the rest of us too!
there is a very nice Flash presentaion on the true story of the boat there is a set of plans on the section about the radiation spreadings in the flash presentation.
