U-boat colours - paint scheme

Hi guys,

I've come across a lot of different u-boat models each with their own paint schemes, finding the correct colours used back in WWII is pretty hard. Many of the photos I've seen are just black and white. Should I use red on the bottom of the waterline or just leave the bottom hull metallic grey? There's a lot of interesting paint schemes I could use, just want to know which combination is more is acurate in this case.

The last two issues of the SCR had articles on U-boat colors. The last issue had color chips on the back cover. There was no red. The U-boat colors articles is one reason people should join the Sub Committee.
