All black on US boats? - Has it been done?

I read in some older posts that the US was going to switch to an all black color sceme on all their boats. Does anyone know if this has been started? Can I do away with the af-red below midline now?

    eckloss,
    Yes this has been started,

    eckloss,
Yes this has been started, however it is'nt being done on all boats yet. I'm not sure why, maybe the paint scheme is changed over the next time the paint is fully stripped . What I'm seeing is the touchup of the paint is done to match the current colors of the boat.
    Hope this helps.

      I have a Seawolf to

I have a Seawolf to get done hopefully this year, and was wondering what the paint scheme should now be. I will still paint the Ben Franklin as it was in the mid-eighties, with the af-red below midline. At least the particular boat I will be doing was shown that way (below midline, not waterline) in some drydock photos

        Eckloss,
        All black is good for

        Eckloss,
All black is good for Seawolf. Remember that the shading will be different because of the types of paint used in the different areas (anti fowling has more of a dull finish than the paint used topside), also take into account the scale effect for shading, Black being more of a graphite color.
        Hope this helps.
