Good question.
I have been meaning to ask this. G-10. I understand it is a high densiity fiberglass sheet, yes? And what is the other things listed above? McMaster-Carr? Is there a website for this? I woud like to read a little more on this.
For example, I have a rectangular hole to fill in my Typhoon. Would this be the stuff to do it with?
Thanks
Think of G-10 as the stuff they make electronic circuit boards out of....minus the solder and holes. G-11 is just a highter rated material and FR-4 is fire resistant.
This site]http://www.econplastics.com/CSepoxy.htm
is the cheapest I found (cost vs sq. footage) but you must spend $250 min.
McMaster-Carr]http://www.mcmaster.com/
(see this site for the BEST info on these products!)
They call their version 'Garolite'. Price is better if you just want a SMALL amount but I'm looking for enough to make all the internal bulk-heads, decks and mounts out of on my 7' Type VII. Plus I'd like to use it on the rest of my fleet!
I got my G-10 after reading about it in SCR. The stuff is great! It can be cut with a saw or cut off wheels. You can super glue or epoxy it. I use West Systems brand and the joints are very strong. Everybody that sees the stuff wants some. Try places that supply electrical contractors or your nearest Plastic supply.

That could be one of my articles in the SCR since I am a big proponent of G-10.
I find that the cost of this material, while a bit higher than say some other plastic sheet material, readily justifies itself due to its strength and rigidity. For example, I have used it for the 'sub deck' of large Type VII hull where I needed to force the hull into a shape that was more correct than it was originally. But we're not talking about thick pieces of material here....only 1/16th of an inch!
And I can also recommend McMaster-Carr for their very quick service.
i can testify to G10 strength.... my frames on my fury extreme helicopter are very stout and are only 1/16-1/8 thick and if i can plow my my heli into the ground at 60+ miles an hour and not break a frame i think they'll survive what little stress it would endure on a submarine lol....
there are carbon fibre upgrade frames available that are slightly lighter in weight (thinner) but are the same strength but the g10 serves me fine....
Yes Jeff it was your OTW write up in the SCR that got me looking. See just another reason to become a member!
I got sheets, 23.5"x 48 x..055 for around $25. So far I have used it for the main deck, bulkheads, WTC and rudder stand. And maybe the gearbox. Even at .055" it is very strong.
Sorry guys, I got all he had left for the guys in my club.
