I don't remember of the book specified a class for the submarine, however I guess we could call the movie version one of the "Ice Station Zebra" class.

....for those familiar with the ever present and same SSN in all of those movies from back then.

I was speaking of the new version, made about 8 or 10 years ago. It was a made-for-HBO or -Showtime movie....foundit on VHS at Blockbuster some years ago when I worked there for a time.

        Now we're on the subject

[color=#FF0000]Now we're on the subject of subs in films, does anyone know what the film was called.
It involoved a crew testing out an old sub that they found. In was like a race and they had to torpedo a target to win. And in the end they hid under a large ship to avoid detection? Also there was a woman on board, that might jog a few memories]

Tsunamis were mentioned earlier in this thread which sparks a question.
What would happen to a sub from the movement of the water in deep water?
I image if a sub was in shallow water it would be devestating.

            What do you think?

              The experience of two divers

The experience of two divers who were in the water during the tsunami suggests that it may not be much of an effect.

Can we assume that the multitude of fishermen who disappeared were "near shore" fishers who would have been caught in the turmoil of shock-waves releasing their energy as the water shallowed? There must have been a great number of larger vessels in deeper water in the Indian ocean but I have not heard one report from any of the media groups as to what they experienced. It may have been little more than a swell.

                  When a boat is given

When a boat is given orders to go to "condition" to launch, the boat remains at that "condition" until stand-down orders are received and confirmed. In the case of an all out war, they may never receive the stand-down order.

Immediately after launch the boat goes to depth and gets the #### out of the launch area to await further orders.

However, with some of the new technology and weapon systems in mind, some of which my company is working on for the Defense Industry, I would not be too concerned about the United States surviving a scenario like this. Sadly, Our so called "allies" will take it in the shorts too be sure as we are not being allowed to provide any protection for them.

A terrorist attack, which is much more plausible, is a totally different ball game.
