OTW submarine kits - Upholder vs Nacken kit.

Anyone built either of these 2 kits that care to comment on them? I was thinking of starting something new this year like these offered by OTW. Really like the looks and size of the Upholder kit. Has anyone order form them recently that can give me a positive or negative on customer service? thanks in advance, have a great Christmas. Jeff Jones

I would have just to say go ahead, eyes closed with OTW. The products are great, fine detailling, strong fiberglass...
I do not know the 2 kits you are interested in, I have the VIIC and the XXIII, awesome models !

The service is very good and Robert is a real gentleman.

I recommend OTW !

Second that Jeff. Bob's a great vendor to work with. You always know where your order stands, and it's usually earlier than expected.

As far as both of these kits, I know Bob sells more of the Upholder than the Nacken, and the Nacken has an X-tail, so you have to accomodate for that design in your construction.

I'm like Antoine, I have the VIIc and the XXIII; in fact, I'm on my second Type XXIII (I liked it so much). I'm hoping to add a Seehund at some point as well.

As the other guys have said, Bob is a gentleman and in my opinion his customer service,and his models are superb ! I am currently building his Trafalgar class kit, and it is excellent. I also have his Type 7C U-boat waiting to be built.By the way, I ordered one of Bobs'WTC's to go in my Trafalgar...at first I was wary of the price, but it really is true that you get what you pay for, and the WTC is a brilliant piece of kit..the finish,and attention to detail are unmatched I think. Finally, I have rung Bob on many occasions, and he is always willing to offer his advice, and help.I really think you will be glad you did buy one of his kits.

I've seen that kit at first hand, and it'll build into a fine model.

Also Steve Warner (OTW chief model maker) did a nice write up on the upholder kit in the report a couple of years ago.

Bob Dimmack is a really nice chap who not only sells excellent kits etc, but he also makes a decent cup of tea and is a fan of 'nice' bicuits as I remember (anyone else actually met him?). Having picked up my type VII kit in person, I gave my boss a real laugh with the line]http://www.subcommittee.com/forum/icon_lol.gif[/img]

The sub kits aside, the other reason to recommend Bob is his background in product design. He is a real professional and has done work for Tango (soft drinks) and Texaco. There are links to examples of these on his web site. No appologies for the plug - for once, someone who deserves a free plug!!

Incidentally, Beckton gas works is where the battle scene near the end Full Metal Jacket was filmed, but the area has since been redeveloped. My father couldn't believe that Beckton was where anything happened since it had been the subject of some rather heavy interest on the part of the Luftwaffe.
