NEW SUBCOMMITTEE WEBSITE - important info! - consider this a readme file:

Ladies and Gentlemen of the SubCommittee,

Now that I've finished up with an out-of-town trip I can focus my full attention on setting up the all new SubCommittee.com for our members!

This new site has tons of extra features, including member homepages that will allow current SubCommittee members to showcase their fleet. Members will also be able to immediately submit photos, links, books, events, vendors, and product reviews to the site for approval. A lot of work has gone into the new site, and a lot of work is still in process, so be sure to keep checking back. Our database of pictures, links, and reviews will grow every day.

If you would like to have access to the site, e-mail me at webmaster@subcommittee.com with the following information]Photos[/b]
Photos are automatically resized to 640x480 pixels. If you want to make sure that your photo comes through nice and clear, be sure to submit it in this size or larger. The resizing software sometimes blurrs a bit when it resizes small images.

Try to select the most appropriate category for your submission. Please don't post pictures of your WTC in the Miltary Submarine category . If you are unsure, or if you don't see a category that the picture would fall under, just shoot it to me by e-mail and I'll do the work for you.

    Member Homepages
A few people are wondering how to get started on their homepages. First, be sure to log in. The link for this is on the left side of your screen near the bottom of the menu. That done, select "member homepage" from the list across the top of your screen. This will bring you to the area where you can tell everyone a bit about yourself and your interests. At the bottom of the screen is the area where you can upload pictures of your personal fleet to share with everyone.

Once you are logged in, the other links across the top will allow submissions for photos, links, books, events, vendors, and reviews.

We are really relying on the collective energies of the members to make the new site as comprehensive as possible. If you have suggestions for any of the categories, be sure to submit them for approval, and soon we will have the difinitive resource for submarines on the net.

I check my mail throughout the course of the day, and try to respond to inquiries as quickly as possible. My goal is to have a maximum of a 24hr delay between submissions and approval and posting. Time will tell if I can keep up!

If anyone has any questions, comments, or concerns, be sure to let me know. I'm working closely with the website developer and between the two of us we should be able to answer any questions you may have.

    Bob,

    Maybe you covered this

    Bob,

Maybe you covered this at another time in the past, but ... Why cant you just take the registered users here and just port them over to the new board??? Why all the new registration etc... ? Porting existing registered users here seems to be the most logical thing to do and it is what other boards do. Besides, anyone registered here will of course want to be registered on the new board anyway. It sort of goes without saying no?

    Just curious...

Marc - note the date of Bob's post. I assume he is just putting it back up so the new guys see it. Is that right Bob?

        Marc,

        Marc,

I'm not sure about the actual logistics of the porting of the two databases. The website was developed by a third party, and my only real work with it has been the maintenance and upkeep of it.

There are other issues that I'd like addressed as well, including the input of the hundreds of existing photos in the old site.

I forsee a few major changes taking place in the very new year in regards to this and a few other issues as well. In the meantime, I know it's a pain for people to double-register, but if you keep your login information constant between the two entities, you should never have any problems remembering one or the other.

For people who have already registered, remember you can log in and change your username and password at any time if you'd like.

          Bob,
Is this going to be a totally new domain, or will it still be at subcommittee.com?

Is my member number on the renewal card I just received? I don't think I've got it anywhere else. Is it online anywhere?

            If you check the date

            Pete,

If you check the date of my original post, you'll see that it was made back in January of '04. The new site has been up and running now for a while.

I can look up your membership number and status if you just give me your full name. For anyone that's paid up, just send your requested username and password and I'll do the rest. Try to keep it the same as your message board login, just to keep things simple.

                Chris,

                Some of the more powerful

                Chris,

Some of the more powerful (and, yes, useful) features of the boards are reserved for members. Anyone can post and register, but only members get the full functionality.

If you're all paid up, just let Jeff LaRue (forum@subcommittee.com) know and he'll change your status from "registered user" to "subcommittee member". From there, you get the whole bag of tricks.

                I hope this helps.

If you have any more questions, feel free to email me directly at webmaster@subcommittee.com and I'll do my best to answer.
