The birth of RC subs - anybody know?

    Hello!

This could be an interesting subject, when were RC subs first invented or introduced on the market? How did people seal the submarine against water

Nikola Tesla had a working RC model submarine at the turn of the 20th century. He used it to demonstrate his invention of radio.

        I have an origional hardback

I have an origional hardback copy of the book "Model Making" by Raymond Francis Yates, 1919 edition. Chapter 23 is entitled "A model submarine with radio control", and consists of 40 pages detailing everything from the hull construction (8' long!) to the details of propulsion, control surfaces, and how to manufacture and install the radio control mechanisms. Amazing stuff!

          Good stuff!

What was the RC subs' hulls made of back then? I assume it might not be fiberglass because it was not discovered by then (then again, I might be wrong....... ), maybe wood or plastic?

Wood or metal. Plastics were a thing of the future.

Glassfibre and resins came along during the '40's to early '50's.
