Hunt for Red October limited edition DVD Errors - Hunt for Red October DVD Errors

Hi guys, not sure if anyone else has started a discussion on this, if so I appologise in advance.

My wife surprised me with a DVD of the Hunt for Red October Limited Edition / Collectors edition DVD. This was a great surprise and I enjoyed the movie right up until the famous "Captain scared them out of the water scene" at the end. You know the scene. Dallas has just done the Emergency Blow, and surfaced near the DDG, and a Russian sailor rescued and standing on the DDG's flight deck says in Russian with the caption in English "Captain scared them out of the water". A short time later Jack Ryan confronts the cook and blows him away and prior to doing so says in English "God dam cook" followed by some Russian.

Ok so what's my problem? - Well the good people at Paramount have set up the DVD (well at least the ones in the Australian market) with no caption for the Russian sailor on the flight deck of the DDG, and with the "Captain scared them out of the water" caption applied to Jack Ryans line as he blows the cook away.

After exchanging 3 DVDs all had the same problem, and I know of another DVD purchased by a friend in another Australian state with the same error. As a big fan of both the book and the movie, I wanted answers. Paramount Australia's response, which is not surprising, was for me to take a long walk off a short pier. I to them am just an insignificant little guy where by they acknowledge the error which is in all DVDs produced for the Australian market, but they don't give a damm!

What I'd like to know from my fellow Subcommittee members in North America and Europe, is this. Does the DVD produced for your market have this error?

    Try getting a US version

Try getting a US version of the movie. I have not seen the movie on DVD so I don't know if the problem is universal.

I rented it from the local video store a few weeks back, but it was not a "collector edition" so maybe it is a different "pressing." Anyway, the DVD that I watched was correct.

After reading the article on the latest SCR, I would really like to build a Typhoon one of these days. It is an awesome sub.

So, who built the model Typhooon in Red October? Mr. Merriman? Someone else?

          What type of TV do

What type of TV do you have? I just got a new wide screen TV and it didn’t show the captions for the Star Wars Trilogy, but when I play them at my parents’ house it had the captions. I think my problem is a setting in my TV.

              Bob,

That is fantastic! I'll be watching your page very closely then. Are you going to add in the rudder trim tab?

                Graydon,

Nope, not that fancy, at least not on this project. If I wanted super accurate I'd have started over from scratch and not from a non-scale hull. When I'm done, it should look darn close to the Typhoon. Anyone that nit-picks the details will be shot.

Plans currently include a lower flying rudder, scale upper rudder, 2.4GHz color video camera, operating bow planes, and operating missile hatches.

To answer the original question, the American version of the special edition DVD has the caption at the correct time.

                      My Aussie "Special Collectors Edition"

My Aussie "Special Collectors Edition" Red October DVD has the same problem as yours, John. I bought it only a couple of months ago here in Brisbane. This is rather disappointing Fortunately, the cast & crew interviews are great though.

I'd really like to see someone do a wider & longer Typhoon hull to take the "caterpiller drive" as per the RO Implementing this as a jet drive would be cool!
