Thank you to John Perkowski for the Ohio Plans

Thanks to subcommittee member John Perowski I have two copies of the 32nd Parallel Ohio sub.

One set is for Brian Stark, for whom I am waitting for a mailing address.

John read my post here on the board and called me last week.

    What a great guy.

I had a good time on the phone with him, and he shipped me the plans at no cost to me.

He refused any money to be exchanged. These are 8ft long plans !

I just thought it would be nice to post this short but great experience with a fellow subcommittee member.

A new friend has been made !

    Thank you again John

    Do one of you guys

Do one of you guys have the ability to copy those? 32P is out of business right? I don't want to rip anyone off, but I too would like a set of plans for that sub.

Are you a subcommitte member ?

If so we can start this as chain mail passing the "favor" forward. I will ask Brian Stark to mail you a copy after I mail him his.

If you are not a member I would ask you to join the wonderfull organization.
Membership does have its benefits !

          Like I said guys.

Lets keep passing the torch here.

I am sending a set to Brian Stark this week. (No charge)

Brian can send a set to you Mike or Graydon and so on and so on.

I think that would work the best.

              MIT,

I just joined last week. I haven't received the membership number or any SCRs yet or even heard from the membermeister to verify that the money went through, but I did send it in.

It would make more sense for one person to copy a bunch of these and then handle sending them out. If it is legal to copy these plans, I could run off a few copies at Kinkos and send them out. Kinkos is picky about these things (as they should be - no need to get into trouble from a corporate viewpoint.)

                Welcome aboard Graydon ! http://www.subcommittee.com/forum/icon_smile.gif

                Welcome aboard Graydon !

You raise a good issue about the legality of these copies.

In John's and my case we both had the 32nd parallel kit. I did not have a set of drawings with it and since 32nd parallel is out of bussiness there was no way for me to get a copy.

In the case of all others I do not know.

There is a copyright mark on the drawing. I do not think copyrights expire when a company folds.

So maybe we are not off to a good start here..are we ?

                  maybe there is a contact

maybe there is a contact person still around at 32nd Parallel who could give permission for copying the drawings - or a price quote from the draftsman?

If it turns out to be legal, I too would like a copy. I have a six foot static model that I will be restoring over the winter for a friend. The plans would be a big help.
I would be more than happy to pay for shipping or pay it forward.

I you have a 32P kit and was ever wondering how that "dam sail plane" connected up, amongst other things, then this will help.

The plan also refferences an instruction booklet. Does anyone know what that may be or have a copy of one ?

I looked at the plans again.

The copyright belongs to a gentleman by the name of Lew Morris. I don't know if anyone has a contact point for him.

Once again, If this copyright situation is cleared up I will be happy to make these available.

                        As I said above]

Wow, you guys are great. Usually when I bring up an issue such as that, I am berated for being a killjoy.

Anyway, thanks MIT for the additional info. It sounds like the 32P plans are only valuable to someone actually building a 32P kit. I looked at the Drydock again, and this tiime, I was able to make more sense of their plans list and I ordered the Ohio plans for $22. Should be here next week I would guess. I'll let everyone know what I find and how good they are. If they are detailed at all, then $22 is a good deal.

The other sub that I am seriously considering is the Seawolf so I bought the plans for that one from Greg Sharpe and they are excellent.

Regardless of which sub I build, I am thinking about building the whole sub from alumuminum, using spun aluminum for the front and rear shaped sections and aluminum tubing for the center straight section. That way, the joints between the sections could be very accurate making them less visible. Also, the overall accuracy of construction could be raised up a few notches and finally, one could polish the aluminum and then anodize it black for a very nice finish to the sub.

                          Just a few thoughts...

Just so you know 32nd Parallel is still for sale as far as I know, which includes all material, hulls, dies, patterns, instructions, and ....plans....

If you have 6 figures you can purchase everything!

Maybe those that know are reluctant to fully answer this question, but is there really enough of a market for RC sub hull kits to make an investment of 6-figures worthwhile? Can one sell enough of these in a year to recoup that sort of investment in a reasonable amount of time? That seems unbelievable to me but I have been wrong on a few occasions.

Did 32P have other products to sell besides submarines?
