Battery Hookup - Best way to mount your battery

I am almost finished with my scratch built WTC. I had planned to run the battery external of the main WTC and hookup it up though the end cap. I have read that some people leave the battery in the wet part of the sub? Is this the best wasy to go? I want to be able to quickly remove the battery without unbolting anything. Should I build a seperate small WTC just for the battery?

Any advise would be great

Kyle, if your using a

Kyle, if your using a gel cell, you can leave it in the wet area with no problem, you can even make a small shelf for it to sit on and just rubber band it in place. Don't worry about the leads running off your batt. you don't need to seal them. This makes for easy battery removal from the boat . Jeff Jones

Here's a pic of my first battery installed in my sub. This one was a little 12V 7Ah SLA battery. It was mounted on the aluminum brackets and secured with Velcro. Installation and removal took about five seconds (approximately).

I've since moved to a larger 12V, 12Ah battery (good for a full day's running). It gets secured with another angle bracket on the top that gets screwed down to hold it firm.

Thanks. I am just using a 6V Nicad Pack. Was thinking of just dipping the whole thing in some tool dip. Is that a bad Idea.....?

Real bad idea. NiCads outgas,

Real bad idea. NiCads outgas, so never try to seal them up. Nicads also can collect solids from the outgassing in the gap from the positive button and the outer shell. This will become conductiove and drain your batteries. NiCads and NiMh all have to stay dry. I am unsure of wehther LiPoly batteries can get wet.

Go with a small watertight compartment for the batteries.

ok thanks..... IF I build

ok thanks..... IF I build a seperate WTC for the battery isn't that basicly sealing it up... or will I need to take it out to charge it. Sorry if these are dumb questions, i'm kinda new to the RC stuff.

Yes...either remove the battery from the dry space (WTC) or at the very least keep the WTC open to the air while charging to allow any hydrogen to vent.
