Building a civilian non-armed sub? - has it ever been done?

I was kind of playing with the thought of building a real sub, one that you can live in, does anyone know about the real troubles that a submarine has to deal with? or the difficulties building one? I don't mean to go down that deep a depth of say 40m maximum would be more then well, what kind of materials would be needed? and is it illegal to even have a sub?

Since you take away all the arms and you dont need that kind of manpower you should be able to shorten the size of the sub considerably.

Say perhaps 30m ?

Anyone have a thougt of this? I mean there has to be more people then me who have actually played with the thought?

yeah well I was thinking about buying and old russian submarine say perhaps and old akula or typhoon, since you can bribe just about anyone in that country I guess you could get one pretty "cheap" on the other hand what should I do with a sub that is almost 200 meters as the typhoon and there would be multiple problems with trying to change the looks on the inside for example throw away the torp rooms and make a living room would probably cost a fortune

I have a buddy who

I have a buddy who along with a bunch of other guys got together and bought a Russian diesel submarine. They keep it moored in Victoria, BC. The submarine was hacked apart by a previous owner but it still has one ascent left it. No more surfaces tho.

They look kind of nice but I guess they aren't that cheap the 65m sub costs $75 millions hehe
