I love Silent Hunter II
I love Silent Hunter II as a single player game - unfortunately, its multiplayer is terrible as it was released as a subsequent bolt-on. Regular disconnections for the original method, and the ability for cheating with the "PM" update
However, SHIII has now been released: Silent Hunter III@Ubi
and looks veeery nice! And with multi-player built in from the start, hopefully it'll be a lot more stable now.

Enigma rising tide is AWESOME!

Enigma rising tide is AWESOME!
I do find that the Gerrmans do have the better built boats, not the fastest underwater (Americans) and not the fastest on the surface(Jap/British) but over all the fastest diver and hardest to detect!!!! Have you played it all the way yet?
BTW.. I use to play Silent Hunter II every stinking day networked!
it holds up well over the internet but the home network sometimes coughs and drops connection... no biggie unless your about to kill the next ship
SHIII is coming out soon...
Enigma however has some of the best graphics your going to find for this type of Sub/surface wargame.
the fun part is that there was no Nazis, it's still the Imperial German fleet, Churchill anad the Royal navy are in Exile and the Americans..we are like the world bullies.
Scapa Flow is a german base since the germans overran England and forced Churchill to the far east with Japan.
as the saying goes "It's a different world"
Have you tried to sink the Hood yet?
I fired over 8 torps into that beast it it only slowed down for a short time.. never sunk it!

HI guys,
Yes Enigma Rising Tide
HI guys,
Yes Enigma Rising Tide is by far the most realistic of the simulators for surface warfare. Obviously its been dumbed down so it can be operated on a keyboard and mouse but I have to say it is great!
I like how the surface ships actually sink in a 'reasonable' time and sink out of site, not just vanishing for example. Just like in real life.
I had one freighter linger for over 30 minutes until it sank. I was hunting a sub in the area at the time. Torpedoed and gunnery injured ships sink at a rate that is based upon how much damage they have. I have finished off a freighter whose bow was sticking straight up by holing the bow with a deck gun for instance. And down in went in the flurry of bubbles as expected.
Hey, any game that can get me a little seasick is a GOOD GAME!

Yes I sank the Hood.
Yes I sank the Hood. I don't remember the torpedo count, but it's ludicrous. I always cheat and wait until I can't miss, then fire all tubes simultaneously. That tactic works great for destroyers in the head-on attack.
Haven't been able to play on the network yet. I can't seem to get my wife interested in it, so no partner. Hmm, puzzling... Yet she'll spend all day on the Ikea website planning her next furniture purchase...
I also like using the third person viewpoint during tactical engagements, like the aforementioned slowly sinking target. I have used a sinking freighter as a shield from destroyer torpedoes while pivot turning the boat. I love the close range shot. The third person view also helps in avoiding incoming torpedoes, even if it's a bit of an unrealistic cheat. I always dive to just a couple meters below periscope depth until they pass, then pop back up so I can see again. It wastes virtually no time and you almost never get hit.
