ok, so i'm painting my sub and just to be safe, i test some of the Testors clear laquer on an extra peice of painted plastic. i set this in the water for about 4.5 hours. i take out the peice and dry it. it now looks like it's covered in gray spray paint. it's got a major portion of the plastic covered in these little white dots! wouldn't be too bad if i was going for a weathered effect (which i wasn't). now, i also tested out the Krylon Clear coat but that seemed to react with the paint underneath when i tested it with another scrap peice of painted plastic. krylon seemed to shrink the paint coat underneath. it's really hard to describe. like the original painted finish lost its uniform smooth texture and instead was replaced by the "swirlies" in the plastic; very odd indeed. any ideas on a good clear overcoat to help protect the painted finish? do all clear coats do this? and i just shouldn't let the sub stay in the water for more than a few hours?
i'm so close!
