The new SCR has fantastic article on building up a Thor Permit Class 1/96 scale submarine From start to finish and ballasting. Also lots of photos on the Akula You guys did a fantastic job
Dr Dave
Dr. Dave, you are right on the mark about the content of the latest SubCommittee Report. You are being a little too modest about your contribution to the issue, because your piece on "Model Submarine Painting" was top rate. Thank you (all of you) very much.
So,
Matt, you are coming to the Sub Ron 5 meet? Excellent!!!
There is something about that place...Quiet and peaceful. Like stepping back 30 years.
I personally enjoy going there with the guys alot. It almost could not be made better for R/C submarines. And without exception, everyone I have meet so far it is a pleasure to know and talk and run submarines.
Subcommittee members, we have an excellent location that could handle any amount of participents and watchers.
Sounds like we have Thor Design coming again, who was nothing but the best on answering endless large and small questions and helping with the boats. I really would like to see some more vendors come. This site deserves some merit.
If vendors are to come, certainly it must be worthwhile. This means subdrivers need to come. It is a really good time and we want you to come!!
Think about it,put it on your calander.Let Paul know you are coming. We would like a big turnout this year. You would certainly have a good time.
I had a good time yesterday with Gail and Paul and tweeking their boats. I will give it best efforts to have mine ready.
I will hopefully add some pictures from yesterday to my homepage this evening.
Oh yea,
I got away from the topic title. My pictures of the Akula were nothing compaired to the other excellent articles in the Report. Paul put a lot of work into that how-to on the Permit. And the other article on painting was awsome to. It is a do not loose issue helpful on general guidlines for building boats.
Jeff, well done!! It always looks better in the magazine than what I sent you. It is a lot of work putting that magazine together.
Big than you Jeff for your years of dedication to the hobby.
People, the Report is worth supporting. Write something!!
They do need your help.
Yes,you! You are the subcommittee.
Thresher drove as good as she looks in the photos. Yes, I took the series of shots with the Navy photos in mind. I'm pleased you noticed.
The success of the project was due in no small part to the content of the SubCommitte Report. I would not have a working r/c sub without the instruction and inspiration I've found in its pages. What you see is part of the fruit of the Report's writers and editors.
And Jeff deserves all the credit for shaping my online material into the article contained in this issue.
Superb work Paul. You did not paint the bow dome a different shade of black - which is absolutely correct! Excellent. Bow dome was steel then, not the GRP retrofit in the late 1970's. Perfect. I noticed the photos and their relationship to the real sub photos immediately too. Very thoughtful and illustrates even more your first class work for comparision. When you get to heaven - be ready for a roudy loud party at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel thrown by the Thresher crew Paul - 'Mush' and 'Dick' will be there too!
Wow, Steve, high praise indeed coming from a true master! And I appreciate the spiritual reminder coming on this Sunday. The goal in rendering the Thresher was to honor the crew.
To check out my running partner and a truly great looking boat, see my Patrol Report in the SubRon5 section. And Steve you really do need to come to Georgetown in August!
