Astute class rudders and aft diving planes

    Hello all,

not sure if this is the right place for this question, but: does anyone have any pics of the British Astute class rudders and aft diving planes? The Trumpeter model puts some circles near the trailing edge on those surfaces and I am wondering if they are holes or access points of some kind.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

A lot of bow shots out there, not a lot of stern shots. Here is HMS Artful on the launch ways.

      Robert,

If you are referring to the dark circle as seen in Tim's picture, that is the outboard pivot point, aka stock bearing, for the stern plans stock. Basically, the whole thing acts like a hinge. The horizontal lines on the fixed stabilizer portion are rubbing strakes. A feature the Brits have used on most of their nuclear submarines for quite some time.
