SSN 571 Nautilus & how to build one

    Hello SubCommittee,

My name is Jim Collins and I am a long time ago former member and I am getting back into subs again.

One of my favorite subs is the SSN 571 Nautilus and I would love to build one. I understand Debour Hulls used to make one but no longer does (I heard the tooling is past worn out). My question is "What are my options"? I understand there are several 3D file available for printing a hull and I wanted to know who and where to get them and if anybody else is offering hulls.

    Thank you

      Hi Jim,

I would like to refer you to a build article I wrote for a
1/72nd scale SSN-571 plug and surfaces I made. It is on page 20
of the March 2020 SubCommittee Report. The SCR is in digital
form and can be viewed on line.

Don Spielberger (LoyalHanna Dockyard) is planning on making
a mold and laying up some hulls for us this spring. (SubRon 8 )

For my version of the SSN-571 I plan on making it a sealed hull
with an Engel pump configuration similar to my Engel Lafayette
      Class sub I have. (SSN-629).

Hope this gives you some ideas.

I have a set of (big, physical) drawings made by Jim Christley years ago. You are welcome to those.

Tom, Thank you very much for the offer. What would you need to send them to me besides my address?
                Thanks again

Cleared mailbox. I sent you an email more than a week ago about Devens.

Jim, Did I send you the plan set? I can't remember if I did. Life intervened.

I have the Nautilus 571 plans scanned at high resolution and in a PDF file. You can enlarge them to the scale you want.
