Attention All Hands
The SubCommittee YouTube Channel is back online, and is extremely anemic in terms of material. If you didn’t realize, YouTube is a major player in the Social world, and is leveraged by hundreds of millions of people to share information, gain revenue, and spread the word regarding their specific interest. IE: Wanna learn Norwegian Basket Weaving? (No).
It is rather astonishing that our Organization has not had the time or drive to utilize this resource to spread the word of WHO WE ARE, and WHAT WE DO. It is such a simple thing to use, and offers so much potential. Uploading a “Cell phone” video file of your favorite “Submarine” subject, and YouTube through it’s algorithms, spreads it by showing it in “Recommended” feed’s as new content to those subscribe, looking for the word “Submarine” (and other terms I tagged) or phrases with that word.
As others view these videos, “like” them, they become popular and show up in MORE feeds. It becomes self perpetuating throughout the YouTube universe, reaching more and more people. As of October 2020, YouTube had over 2 billion users. Even you luddites out there can’t deny that’s a powerful electronic media audience that deserves tapping to notify them that an organization called “The SubCommittee” exists.
Look at what happened in just the short time the Facebook page grew since it was reborn by Mr. Chalfant, Mr. Smalley, Mr. Reichart and Mr. Porteous. 1.7k members! It grows more and more with each passing day by comments, shares and searches for Sub content!
Easy, and free! Who doesn't like that??
I can’t tell you how many times I hear, “We need to grow our membership!”. Plenty of responses, most of which involve volunteering time and money. Some, as well intentioned as they are, are impractical. How many times have I heard, "We need to get kids involved!” How do you do that? Visit schools? Boy Scouts, YMCA? (Does that still exist?). Has anyone had success?? YOU want the youth?? Approach them on their turf...Social Media.
I’m going to ask you to put your money where your mouth is.....the good part is it won’t involve money, or much time.
THIS is a call to arms.
Let’s start by the easiest, and 2nd most helpful. Go to our YouTube Channel, subscribe, maybe view a few video’s late at night when you’re bored and the Admiral’s asleep. Use your phone on the throne. Whatever, it’s the least you need to do, but kicks those Algorithms in gear. “Like” the videos you do, even “dislike” as well. Make that software work for us. Spread the word, tell your friends. If you are a Social media nut (FB folks) Share the Channel and Video links online. Post it on You’re page an the SC FB page when it comes out!
The following is almost as easy, and will help the most.
This is part is for formal SC Members in good standing with respect to dues: The next time you're at a Fun Run, Regatta, Model show, Museum Event, Sub Museum (ALBACORE walkthrough) Naval Event (no ship movements please, loose lips sink ships) like a commissioning if you’re lucky to attend one; ANY event involving submarines, pull out that smart phone, and take video!! Then just send it to ME! I’ll do the heavy lifting by simply adding a Header and footer, and posting it for you. Take a look at the SUBRONLA I tossed together for Jeff, I'll have one for any Chapter, or SC video as a whole. These will be organized in playlists. If you just like to do photos, zip and send that, we’ll make it a slide show. Guaranteed your 15 minutes of fame lol.
PM or email me and I’ll set up the specifics to Transfer files for me to post.
Please follow these guidelines.
1-Zip them into a single file
2-a text file showing the following for each so I can add a 15 second intro:
A-Title/What it is. IE Joe Schmoe's ALFA underway (Owner Credit)
B-Which SC Chapter they belong to, General SC member ok. (Intro background/Chapter credit)
C-Videographer (for credit)
3-If you want the audio kept or I add some ethereal free bg music.
4-And an email that you dropped them in.
Finally, this IS NOT A REPLACEMENT for videos posted here. They can exist on both locations! NO actual change other than asking you to to send it to me for YouTube Posting. The intent to build up the YouTube Channel is to show OTHERS who we are, and what we do. It’s to advertise and spread the word about the SubCommittee to attract more members and build our strength. I’m not even asking you to stay on YouTube after you subscribe to our channel, that’s YOUR choice. But in doing so, and/or sending me material to post even if you never visit YouTube, puts recruitment in YOUR hands…..our hands.
That’s what you want, right?
Go ahead, take a look, it won’t bite. SubCommittee YouTube Channel C'mon, overload your VP with media to post.
