    U.S. Torpedo History PDF

If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

In 1944 Bald Porcupine Island in Bar Harbor, Maine, was used as a live target for torpedo testing. The USS Piper, VT-4 from the USS Ranger, and the USS Hill, all successfully reduced the mass of the island. Piper contributed the most with 12 fish inserted into it's cliff. There are till torpedo components to be found on the island, BUT, no, you can not collect them. Some parts indicate that electric torpedoes were fired, as well as steam. Bald Island is now part of Acadia Nat'l Park. If there is interest, I will happily post photos of the attacks as well as the log page documenting the fish fired from Piper.
