We have RI regatta and Carmel coming up. Has the sharp rise (highway robbery), of fuel going to keep anyone home this year?

As far as the RI
As far as the RI regatta goes I really wish I can make it (depends on me lemon, I mean car). I am going to do what I can to my power to make it to Carmel. Gas is no question, that is small change to what the experience will be to talk to the members about their subs and their tips and tricks.
I know I keep referring to the meetings as members but there is something to being a part of the team that makes the membership worth it. Besides it is only a small fee to be apart of a group of people that you enjoy being with.
What you have to remember is that nobody makes money off of it. It is to support the activities that we enjoy.
As of now I have not been to any meetings... but I do plan to attend the future ones whichever ones I can and it makes me feel good to know I have done something to support it and be a part of it. As is submitting an article to the SCR will get your name posted in writing so that everybody worldwide will see you. That should give you the same feeling of recognition.
I think I have rambled enough so lets get to sub building.

P.S. I would like to ask the nonmembers what 'they would want' to think that joining the SC be worth it? Remember, we can't produce miracles. But WE would like to make our 'customers' happy. (Sorry I just took a seminar in Service Excellence) -

What we pay for a liter is what you pay for a gallon.
Buy a fuel efficient car or stop complaining.
In the newsgroups that I frequent there are also a number of Americans complaining about how much they have to pay for gas.
Look around you. Here in the Netherlands the official price of regular gas is Euro 1,29 per liter. 1 Euro equals $1,18 you do the math.
I do not mean to offend anyone, much less ask to be flamed but I get slightly pissed when I hear people from a country like the USA with it LOW fuel prices about how expensive it is there.

Yeah, but $5 of that is taxes and they have public transportation to get them where they want to go.
Also, I suggest you try using public transport to get from A to B in the UK.
I can assure you buses and trains will not take you everywhere, and public transport is just as expensive as driving.

Guys...Lighten up here....Isn't this suppose to be fun. The UK and Europe do things differently towards Petroleum. We in the US look at differently. I think we should be looking at why our Oil companies (US) are enjoying large profits.

I asked a simple question and someone from across the pond had to make a U.S. vs. Europe speech. I'd like to help the guy out with his high gas prices, but I honestly don't give a ####. What can I say? Some people inspire me; and others make me wish for a huge comet to come hurling towards earth.Guys...Lighten up here....Isn't this suppose to be fun.

I have to laugh when I see folks complaining about the price of fuel. When I was going to college and pumping gas, back in the early 80's, the price was in the 1.30's. Now, I when i go across the street to buy gas (I own a business across from a Chevron station), they are charging something in the order of 2.21 for regular. Not even double. If only the house I am looking at buying has only gone up 2X since the 1980's, or that car that I will soon need to replace (or even ship model kits)
Lets say you will be driving 1000 miles round trip to attend a regatta, and that your car gets 20 miles to the gallon. You will be using 50 gallons of gas. Now lets stipulate that you will be paying 1.00 a gallon more than you think right or proper. That is $ 50. If that $ 50 is the make or break point in your decision process to attend -- well, only you can make that determination, but it would not discourage me if I really wanted to go.
I am not defending oil companies, not by any means (and those that know me will understand this!), but we cannot let those who wish to manipulate our emotions to succeed despite the facts. I hope that every TV station or newspaper that feels the need to fan the flames with stories on this singular economic issue at some point discloses just how much their advertising rates have gone up over the years. I suspect that it is more than double over the last 30 years!

Ed, you are right on. It's all about spin, wagging the dog, etc.
When gas goes up I have mixed feelings about it. Americans should indeed buy more fuel efficient cars, but you can't tell them anything. (just try) Rising gas prices will eventually make a convert out of all but the most stubborn.
I'm glad to not be paying $7 a gallon! It would change the way I live. Or maybe I'd buy another motorcycle...Comment
