    Another lost resource

Although not heavily used in the past several years, SubPirates.com had some good resources. It is sadly no longer.

Ralph posts his builds there and fortunately he has his own site (http://www.cliffhangershideout.com/subpirates/SP.html) so those are not lost.

When asked why join and get a membership at subcommittee.com, one reason is to preserve the information that decades of wise people have put down that all learn from. If this site was no longer......would you miss it?
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

After nearly two years of working to get the site relocated back to the United States, I gave up. The owner of the hosting service pulled the plug on all of the sites they were hosting and shut the business down. It wasn't for lack of trying. I have so many other things going on so sadly, I had to let it go.
      Regards,

      Matt

SubPirates is where I posted all my builds as Tom said above.
I was there at SubPirates when it first began.
The sad thing is the loss of all the info that was posted there.

I was a member of SubCommittee back in 1991 or there abouts.
Then I wondered off to do other things.
          Came back to building submarines.

But right at this moment, I am building a surface craft.
          Building out of need.
I ran my Akula II so long a month ago, that the batteries dropped off in the BEC.
I had to sit and wait for almost 2 hours for the wind to finally come up and push the sub to the shore.
I had only the Akula II with me.
I should have taken 2 boats as I usually do.
An on this day at the lake, I was the only one there running a boat.

The last couple off days I thought about posting the build here.
At first I thought about trying to post all the builds but that did not seem practical.

I decided I might try posting my current build.
I have 30 days in to it as of today.
It may take me a few days but I will post it in the surface craft section.

The rest are on my personal web site for anyone to look through.

What a loss, it was a very active group for a while. I learned a lot from the people on there and their builds. I have been more of a watcher on these sites instead of a contributor. Hope this is a opportunity to get people more consolidated in this hobby and thinking more about keeping the knowledge going.

              That is a great loss!
I was hoping that it would be archived on the "Wayback Machine" but it seems to be an incomplete record:

While you are on the Wayback Machine consider donating - they need the money!

Back in, I think 2017, PhotoBucket suddenly and without warning changed its terms and we lost 100’s if not 1000’s of photos. Many were of Russian submarines collected over years. They wanted > $300 a year, if I recall, and the move was abrupt so that everyone’s collection was basically held as hostage.

Now the SubPirates information and builds are gone as well.

It raises the question of whether a relatively inexpensive backup site might be a good investment for the SC. Even with the upcoming charge for greater than the 15 GB of free storage, Google would be one of many options.

Something I noticed today. SubPirates is active again.

There is a week missing sort of.
My last post was on Dec 9th and that is where it seems to be at today.

That is good news! I recommend browsing through the tips and builds. Really good information there!

Regarding the entirety of this thread.....

We can't build time machines to go back and fix things, we can just change the future.

To quote Dr. Bowman and HAL:

Stay tuned..a brand new SC is coming.

                              Ed,
I so agree with you. We can't fix the past or travel back in time, but we can learn from it and improve going forward. I look forward to the future, something wonderful.
