What gets me, is non members of the SC coming in here complaining about vendor problems. It makes it seem like you (and others),only want to be involved here to post a gripe. I have never had a problem getting hold of Skip, even to shoot the breeze, but more importantly, you're lucky he replaced the item as it seems you damaged it due to your own lack of knowing where to hook up the hot wire.
I think it is time to do some re-evaluating of how this board is set up, I really like the new boards with their look and function.
We all have to register to post here, but it seems that we are also allowed to leave out a lot of information, I talked with Jeff LaRue awhile back about how many registrations were still phony, I think it is in the several dozen and Jeff said that I was probably not too far off.
On AOL I have 7 screen names at my disposal, although I only use and check one of these, the other 6 are set up and only known to two people.
I think that it should be required that the posters have their name and city in their profile to post here, there are way too many posters that have virtually blank profiles. If your going to post messages here, you should not be hiding behind " no information provided"

SUPPLYING YOUR HOBBY IS NOT OUR HOBBY
The original comment was uncouth. Aren't we supposed to be grown men? I believe there should be a centian ediquette for this message board. It there is a person with a problem with a vender, which I think The SubCommittee is not associated with, it should be posted in a positive way and/or requesting for assistance. I understand you may be upset but please keep this a friendly site, I am sure there are people here with connections that would help someone out.
I am in full agrement with Mr. Upshaw. The notion of using these boards, but not having backbone enough to fill in full registration details is BS. It gets down to the issue of putting your money where your mouth is. If your gonna talk the talk, then walk the walk.
By the way, I have found Skip Asay to be a stand up guy. Everything that I have ever ordered from him arrived quickly and in great shape. He has been very free with his information and helpful in every way.

[color=#000000]There's a million tricks for people to get access to the board and say whatever they want anonymously. You need the serenity to accept that, but the courage to take another approach.
I am a paying sponsor at another board with 30K+ members. www.ls1.com People are always going to show up and make claims, and many times they think their point of view is completely valid. That is why the paid sponsors at that forum are afforded an editorial protection. It is a headache for the moderators, but any post complaining about a paying sponsor gets locked, then moved to the "sponsor forum" to which only sponsors have access. Members complain routinely that they are not allowed to say anything negative about the "beloved sponsors", but one's right to free speech does not pertain to libel. So whether or not the claim is true, at least the error is made on the side of the potential victim, the sponsor.
The other thing is that whenever someone comes along to complain, there's always five or six "regulars" who jump on to vouch for the person. The "attack" has no real effect in the long run and never has. I don't mind too badly when some person starts whining about me on my other forum. It gives my cronies a chance to jump on before the thread gets locked. You can't buy that kind of advertising.
The internet is an easy place to make claims. I had one guy tell me that the majority of European modelers were Subcommittee members, and since we only had about a thousand members that there really weren't that many submarines in Europe. Hah! He also told me for his "day job" he owned and operated a multimillion dollar business and that he had to do $30K a day or they would go bankrupt. Oh yeah, he also has been to 34 countries in the last two years! My wife read that email and had two words]
I have noticed this problem many times and have come to the conclusion that posting should be a privilidge (sp) of SC membership. That would not prevent non-members from reading the board and the rest of the site, but at this time in my life, I'm starting to believe that membership is a very low price to pay for all we get from SubCommittee and the expertise that is available. I do not believe it would drive non-members away, but would place added value and incentive on membership. This also includes keeping SC Report as a hard copy publication.
The first thing that needs to be done is get rid of nicknames and/or incomplete names and make people use a real first and last name. Second, users must fill out an application with name, address and phone number which only the webmaster will have. Lastly, if somone has a vendor gripe, place a member in charge of this complaint and if the vendor has ads in the SCR he/she will be contacted by this person in an attempt to resolve the issue.
He reminds me of when I was young and impetuous. That was days ago.
The problem is not anonymity, because people will bash a vendor with their real name or a fictitious one with a freemail address. The administrators cannot police this. Having a separate area for members does not preclude the world from reading what the non-members wrote on their "side" of the forum, so that does not fix vendor-bashing.
If you only allow SC members to post, others will go to another forum and find a home, and you will lose your preeminence for the English speaking crowd - bank on it. You can't put restrictions on your "free" forum or newbies will go elsewhere. And newbies are helping to feed the vendors and increasing the hobby in general. The problem is cyclical.
Just quit worrying about it. People will always talk and there's nothing you can do about it, except talk back. There's no shortage of backtalk around here!

S'easy as that.

Let's see if this works......I've taken the original thread and copied it to here. Then removed those posts that were of a different topic. This appears to be a good way to keep the topic of forum access going....
