    I lived most of my life on Long Island and never knew this.

      Actually in New Suffolk (before Greenport heading east on the North Fork) north of Robin's Island,.

      Drive by it all the time, sailed past it as well in waters of the Peconic Bay where these boats where tested. It's my understanding the very first "Drill" aboard a US Sub was done in these waters.

      Ray Mason and I attended the 100th Anniversary of the US Submarine force on the day they Dedicated this Plaque.

      Great piece of Silent Service history.
