    Great idea, but here comes

Great idea, but here comes the fly in the ointment... check with your local building code people and a lawyer about your "attractive nuesince" (too late to check my spelling on that). Out here, kids are drowning everywhere and it seems pond/pools in people's yards (even with fences) attract them and legal problems. Other than that, we envy you for the space AND a wife that approves ... Bless Her!

thanks for the input ,our land is fenced and a 125 lb. german shephered runs loose in it 24/7 ,so that discourages uninvited visitors.

        Pity the parents of such

Pity the parents of such unsupervised children can't be prosecuted. Children go out of there way to climb fences of properly enclosed swimming pools as a challenge, even if they are breaking the laws tresspassing, doing damage, and using the pool unsafely - still the pool owner or association can be sued if that poor little juvinille crimminal is floating face down in the pool. Poorly written or practiced laws lacking common sense we must obey. As president of a HOA for several years, we just spent $11,000 on a new attractive taller pool fence with nice sharp overhanging spikes on top. If I am not in the shop building subs, I and plenty of my good neighbors will be doing our Gomez Addams impressions sharpening those spikes with a sharp file. Old pool fence was good, just obsolete, the new fence a good investment.

I concur with 'DB', please check with your local building codes, build it right, and enjoy your new pond and 'test area'.

          To almost answer your initial

To almost answer your initial question about the robbe u-47, I have only had mine operational in a 15' x 30' swimming pool, and it couldn't turn in the 15' width of that pool. My guess would be somewhere between 20' and 25' would be the smallest you could make it and still turn in.
