    Trek Trivia

A suggestion of a Trek Triva to go along with the Python Trivia was made.
In my favorite episode of the original series (City on the edge of tomorrow) if I remember correctly.
Mr Spock is collecting what to try and get the busted Tricorder working? (Electronic part) or (Parts)

He was collecting "radio tubes and so forth" to construct a mnemonic memory circuit. Later Spock stated that he was using "equipment which hardly (was) very far ahead of stone knives and bearskins."

Vacuum tubs would have been sufficient.

        Okay, here's one for you.....

The episode is "The Omega Glory" and folks will likely recall the end where the tattered American flag is brought into the room and Kirk is challenged to recite the "holy words".

The question: what was in the earlier drafts of the script that provided a plausible explanation for the flag and words, but was left out when the episode was filmed?

I don't remember it in their language.
But I am not sure it is your question.

Hmmm....let's see if I can clarify without giving away the answer....

What are the odds of another planet developing a civilization that has the U.S. flag and the Declaration of Independence? Wasn't that a little odd?

That said, in earlier scripts this was explained in a reasonable way.

Guess you got me on that one.
I always thought it was parallel universe or something.
I have not seen that one in many years.
              So I don't remember a lot.
Come on you closet Trekies. :
              Maybe D3 knows.

You cannot get the answer from only watching the episode.

                  Re: Trek Trivia

The answer can be found in the Star Trek novel "Forgotten History", which postulates that the constitution was a remnant of human civilization left behind by the cargo freighter USS Philadelphia.

I cconsider the above a more plausible explanation than the one Jeff is waiting for which is: a deleted scene filmed but cut before airing, has Spock speculate that maybe a ship from Earth's early space race is responsible. This of course ignores the fact that the episode makes it clear that the war on the planet was over a thousand years ago, and that means that Omega IV had a United States of America, Pledge of Allegiance, and Constitution long before the Untied States came into existence on Earth. If it is not a coincidence, than one must conclude that somehow Earth got these things from Omega IV. (Maybe some of them escaped into space and came to Earth. With their lifespans, they could have been behind the scenes of the American Revolution on Earth.)

Is the above answer acceptable, Trek Master?

Wow, Matt. Impressive. I couldn't even (easily) find the answer in my "These Are the Voyages" reference volume...!

                      Re: Trek Trivia

While I like the rationale behind Matt's answer, the novels have never been considered canon in the Trek universe. BTW: that novel had the inhabitants of Omega IV as not being human and had the USS Philadelphia leaving those artifacts behind....which inspired the Yangs fight for their freedom.

JeffP - you are looking in the right source for the answer.

                        Re: Trek Trivia

I agree with that, Jeff. But, with the novel being out there I wanted to float that. Just like the old novel, 'Spock, Messiah', it addresses many issues in TOS that were never answered on screen.

Absolutely. Lot's of plot holes and inconsistencies created by the episodes.

                            Jeff,

I stumbled on an old build thread of yours related to the Captain Cardboard Klingon D7 model you built. I've always wanted to build one of those kits, but I waited too long! It is now out of production....

Yea, I've never understood why he takes kits out of production when he always seems to be struggling financially and there are kits with a demand.
