What`s a Good Cheap Metal Hobby Lathe for this hobby

    Hello

After downsizing I am in a wish/want of a Small Metal lathe to fill my needs for R.C sub parts making.

Can anyone recommend any brand names that have after market parts also available and is fairly cheap?

    Thanks for your Time.

I've been using a Sherline lathe and mill for years, great for model parts. Make everything from bearings to steam engines with it. Most of the harbour freight and grizzly type machines are all far east clones of each other, and can require as much time and money to rework them as they cost initially.

      Taig lathe. I love it.
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

        Thanks guys for your replies.
I wonder what the equivalent is here in Canada? I think the shipping for one of those and the rough handling it got, would be too much.

Stay away from Micro-Mark; there's a lot of negative reviews about tolerances and inaccuracies both radially and axially...

All of the sales for sherline and taig machines is mail order, they have no problem with shipping. Should be dealers in Canada, and both companies ship internationally.

I am so pleased with my Taig (called a Peatol in the UK) lathe. I am just gazing at it now. Small footprint and does everything I have asked of it including turning aluminium up to 4.5 inches diameter.
