Help - Where to Go around Peoria, IL

    Hello everyone,

I am new to this site and hobby and this forum is awesome and helpful! I just built my first ever sub - Engel's 1:100 Typhoon. However, I recently moved to Peoria, IL area and I have not been able to find a place to take my sub to in the surrounding area. Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated!!!

    Kwan,
Congratulations on your build and welcome to SubCommittee. Hopefully someone will hop in here to say they are near you, but in the mean time. I am glad you are here.
    Peace,
    tom
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Wow, nice build! Unfortunately, I'm not in your neck of the woods so I don't have any op area suggestions. And I do feel your pain. I've been through the same search down here. You might inquire with any local target clubs (sailboats, fast electrics, etc.) and see where they run. Your local parks authority should have a list of available public spaces with water features. It may take some field work to check the water out but it's a good place to start.
      Warm regards,

        Kwan,

Nice Typhoon, well done on the build. Unfortunately I can’t help on the local thing, I’m 14,982 Klms away.

        Regards,

        David H

The man-made pond in Carmel, Indiana is a definite all-time favorite to many within a 10-hour radius. Just over a three hour drive from your new home town. Check the "Upcoming events and regattas" section of the forums for the announcement early next year about the 2019 edition of the annual Carmel fun run. Dozens of great captains and scores of superb submarines all gather for a 2-day run. Usually the first full weekend in August. Make the effort to be there. You won't regret it! Also, the Indianapolis Admirals scale boat club run there several times each season, and have their own all-day events each year. There are usually a couple of subs there, too.

SubCommittee member Bob Eissler is in Peoria. He probably knows a few locations to run at.

              Hi,
Bob and I seem to be the only two SCR members in the Peoria area and we would like to welcome you to our area. We are also IPMS members of the Jack Wyzlic/Polish Coast Waters model club. Bob is a bubble head fanatic and you should definitely make arrangements to see his toys. As regards a local area to sail our boats, one of our IPMS members has suggested his buddies huge swimming pool(which we have not checked out yet) and Bob has his own small pool to test his boats in. There are several parks in our area that have lagoons but the water is generally very murky. Several of the local schools have pools and probably would allow us in. Our IPMS club usually meets the first Tuesday of the month in the Peoria area, although we are going to hold a joint meeting with the Springfield, IL IPMS club on Saturday, Oct. 20th at 1pm in the Lincoln, IL area if you would like to come.

                  Hey guys,

Please consider taking some photos and providing a short write-up of the 20th get together that we can put in the December SCR...probably the Fox Schedule!

Hi Kwan, welcome to Peoria. As others have said Carmel IN (northern suburb of Indianapolis) is about the best place in the country and is about 3 hrs away. They have a scale meet Oct 14 and Nov 11th.
I belong to the Chillicothe Sportsmens Club (a private gun club) and run subs and surface ships in their pond. The water is about the same as in your pictures but is has very soft banks for launching the boat so it is a little difficult to keep from getting your feet wet. I have an 18 ft pool in my backyard which is my sub test tank. Send me a message (my email address is schutzen2@gmail.com) or private message me here and we can get together.

I saw the pictures of the Fun Run. The pond looks awesome! I will try to be there next year.
