Building of the glass fiber Hull

    Hi to Everyone,
my name is Ivan and i live in Italy. In the past i have been doing static model kit but now i would like to start with the bulding of a sub model from scratch.
I would love to enter in the wonderful world of dynamic modeling, build my own hull and then maybe one day put it in the sea with all the electonic and mechanic parts.
I have no competence in buildings of glass fiber hulls and i need some advices. Please can someone help me?

Well, for the first thing i have read all the fantastic Steve Neill pdf. Then i searched in the web for some material or tutorials. Ultimately it remain some questions to me.
Steve Neill build the mother mold pours silicone outside the submarine foam model. Then he have the mother mould but in the pdf document it says no what will he do then. How he build the resin hull? Maybe placing tha glass cloth inside the mould?
John Van DerHeiden instead put the fiber glass for the hull outside the real foam hull. Then i think he cut the hull and thorw away the internal foam hull. Right?

Please can you help me to understand what is the better system for a person who has nevere build something with fiber glass?

Thank you very much and great congratulations for your forum!

I'd definitely go with the "lost foam method" that you referenced. Lots of videos on YouTube on how to do that, but basically, build your master pattern from foam, seal it up and prime it. That done use EPOXY and fiberglass cloth to lay up your shell on the outside of it. Make sure you're using epoxy, as polyester will eat the foam and kill your boat before it launches.

Once you have your shell done, cut it at the waterline or centerline and scoop out the foam. Any stubborn or hard to reach foam can be dissolved with gasoline or other solvent.

      Hi Bob,
      thank you for your replace!
I suppose the first step for me is to build the master with foam. And it takes me many time!

Now then i have to undestand what sub model to choose. And what scale.

Please can you help me to find some place where find blueprints?

      Thank you!
