To float or not to float! - Water conditions

As I am just starting in subs, I was wandering if it would be beneficial to know about the water conditions at the events i.e. average temp, salinity, chlorine content. Considering it only takes a few grams of water to dive, change depth or surface. I hope I am not getting too technical with this.

    Most of us just take

Most of us just take a little extra weight along and add or subtract as necessary. Skip Asay uses pocket change - he'll look at the trim of his sub and say "That looks like about a quarter's worth." He plunks in a quarter, the sub is trimmed and away he goes.

I am afraid that by the time you were done taking all those measurements, the other guys would already be in the water playin'.
