Submarines to be profiled on new TV show

I just saw an advertisement for a new program, called "Combat Ships", on the Smithsonian Channel (Comcast ch. 123), 8 to 9 pm on this coming Monday, Jan. 15th. The premiere episode is entitled "War Beneath the Waves", and will profile submarines use in naval combat throughout history. Just FYI.

    Thanks for the heads-up, Erich!

When I went to set the DVR to record it I noticed that immediately following the program there is something titled "Hell Below" that will cover the German WW2 wolfpack tactics.....

          Chris,

I didn't recognize the title, but it's possible I did see it last year. It should be obvious after the first few minutes of watching.

"Hell Below" is a five or six-part series on U-Boats. I've seen a couple of them and they definitely hold your attention. Jeff, I think you would be very interested to watch this because I remember hearing someone say that the show often times got the class of boat they were showing wrong.

My wife gets a bit of a chuckle sitting in the same room with me when I watch various history shows as I'm always disagreeing with either what they are saying or what images are being used. I have no doubt that this show will be any different.

If you really want to freak her out, pause in the middle of the rant like you are listening to the TV reply...!

Despite its inaccuracies, it really is a well done program IMHO. You can tell they put a lot of effort (and probably money) into the sets.

Ha... How many times have I seen a documentary on Pearl Harbor and these idiots always use stock footage of the harbor
Being divbombed by sbd dauntless dive bombers and a quick shot of the flag flying and it's in reverse.....
sigpic. You have to ask yourself one question...would the admiral approve

Just watched the episode on Combat Ships about submarines. It was okay.....I guess you could say it was one of those "history-lite" type of programs. Kind of an odd progression through the subject and as well as some odd in what it did and did not cover. The little tug boat that escorted all newly constructed EB subs was covered but I didn't see anything about WW2 U-boats...though WW1 U-boats were covered. Sort of.

                      Oh, well.

I agree, nice images but light on detail and coverage. Better than nothing, hope they do more.
