    Robbe Type VII hull ?

What do you guys think of the scale of the hull on this kit? I never seen on in person, just kit still in the box. Now with the upgrades on the brass deck and the aftermarket tower, just thought I would ask you guys what you think of the basic scale look of the model. thanks Jeff J.

    Hi Jeff,

    The hull is okay.

    Hi Jeff,

The hull is okay. The basic shape is mostly correct, but some accuracy is lost, probably due to the necessities of vacuum molding of the hull. The bow and the stern are of questionnable accuracy in terms of their plan and profile shapes.

Also, there is no surface detailing on the hull itself other than the characteristic join lines between pressure hull and the free flooding skin.

A good portion of these problems can be dealt with, but would require a fair amount of work.

    ...my 2 cents worth!

    -hope this helps,

    Jeff

      it is a decent kit

it is a decent kit and lends itself well the scratch building I have built 10 or so now and keep adding stuff as I get more info
like that weird thing in the middle of the keel I just started using a pounce wheel for rivet detail and added a sharper stern and aft torp tube

        Charles, that's an interesting idea,

Charles, that's an interesting idea, to use the pounce wheel for the rivets like that. Do you heat it up at all to get it to sink in deeper or just roll it cold? What's the effect like after it's done? Any details you'd care to share would be appreciated.

          roll it cold the thickness

roll it cold the thickness of the hull is around .060 and I do it after the hull parts are joined halves put together I mark the lines I want for rivets in marker with a flexiible ruler and just push hard its a real work out fo the hands
the points on the pounce wheel are quite sharp I am not really sure if it is a pounce wheel I robbed it from the wifes sewing machine stuff its used to mark paaterns with colored carbon paper in essanc eit is a pounce wheel but sharper points
the pattern left from this procedure need a little sanding with 600 paper it really works great in the rudders and dive planes

I will post pics at my site soon
