My question is did electric boat in Groton have women building submarines during WWII? I take groups though the submarine Becuna and occasionally get that question. Thanks for you help.
Another great LIFE archive find are these color shots from Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut during the 1940s. Electric boat is the premier submarine manufacturer in the U.S., possibly in the world. My grandfather worked for General Dynamics (who owns Electric Boat) in sixties overseeing the cons

There are some old articles in an EB history archive from the company newspaper, not open to the general public. Lots of pictures, a fair number available in NAVSOURCE of the ladies building fine fighting vessels. Rosie-the-Riveter was not the only one to wear a stylish bandana!!
Yes and the one photo i remember seeing was two woman welders on the deck caseing of a gato and they looked like they were doing more bs ing than they were working. It was kinda of a funny shot
