Still the same for USN boats. Mechanically latched and pinned shut after closing. Modern radars are a lot less complicated and only use a plate as a closure now. It is attached to the radar head unit and rotates along with it.
Steve, what you mentioned about this photo etch sail parts not looking correct if they were just laid down or attached on the surface. I can't remember where I read this but if after attaching them, if I was to touch them with a hot soldering iron, would the PE parts settle into the plastic?
I guess that would work, Chip. What would be gained by using them? What we are aiming for is a circular outline around a flush hatch. This is already scribed in on the kit. Adding PE circles doesnt add anythhing imo. Now, if the PE inspection hatch covers had a ring of bolt heads on them that would be adding! The PE MBT vents are useful, and the radar replacement, and the opened Sail nav lights. So it might be worth it to put those on if you have them.
