Revell Type VII in America - it's here!

Just picked up my Revell Type VII u-boat today from Hobbytown. I hear Carl Dietz beat me there by a few hours and picked his up as well.
That is the report out of Austin Texas. I have a feeling there is going to be enough discussion on this boat to add another topic section to the board just for this boat.

    I picked mine up on

I picked mine up on Sunday from Al's hobby's. They had ordered 25 and sold all within two days! I grabbed two! I am about halfway with the build and I must say this is an awsome kit.

      Hey All,

As Wayne said, I beat him out by a few hours. You almost lost that kit, Wayne! Mike was sorely tempted to keep it for himself!

From what Mike at HobbyTown said, every kit that came into the US to their distributor in this batch was pre-ordered. It all went immediately. They have no idea when another batch will make it to the US. Mike also reported that all the 3rd party 1/72nd scale detail kits (from sailors to photo-etched brass) made to detail this model are sold out (at least in the US)!

Now I'll have to go wade thru the 12+ pages of posts on this kit and catch up. It was just too frustrating to read about it when I didn't have it and had no idea when it was going to show up! I pre-ordered the kit in December...

My two are on their way as well. (One from Great Models and one from L&M Hobbies.)

As a side note, Jeff Herne, from the FSM website, is going to make Turm IV (extended wintergarten) resin pieces for the model available, more than likely before Nautilus Models release their tower. I think it will probably cost about $15 for the two pieces....no guns or railings included though. Here's his website's URL- you can email him through here...

I agree this model should not just set on a stand and look pretty. I plan to r/c mine as soon as other experienced guys provide me with advice. Some form of WTC needs to be made. Any advice?

Group]http://www.subcommittee.com/forum/icon_biggrin.gif[/img] Received my Revell-Germany 1/72 Type VII from internethobbies. Checked out the instructions, looks really great. Inspected the kit and found many damaged parts . I'm sure the damage was due to shipping and not from production, although I believe if Revell would have packaged the trees in individual bags and not just one large bag, there would have been much less damage to the parts. Many of the trees are broken, and all of the railings are shattered. Have the bow broken on the port side by lower torpedo shutter door. Starbord side has 1/4 inch broken off the bow at the very tip. The bag that contained the trees had many holes in it and most of the broken parts are in the box. " I HOPE " Will not know until I start construction. All in all still looks to be a very impressive kit. Well done Revell-Germany.

thanks Rockpile, after reading your message I went to internet hobbies and ordered one. Said it would ship in 1-2 weeks, e-mailed to me after the original order was 2-4 days... hummm can't beat-em all Worked out well anyway, may not start on it for a while and want to order the sold out brass deck. Scooorrrrre!

I managed to actually find one of these kits at one of my local hobby shops. It wasn't even on my 'list' as this store rarely gets anything new early in the release cycle.

Echoing what others have said]big[/b] box that this thing comes in!

After a very quick examination of the hull (Ronald was asking about it), it does look like Revell got most everything right. There are some rivet lines and detail missing, but unless you're really into anal modeling, you probably won't miss it. (For those who know me, yea....I'll be looking to add the missing details.)

As I continue to look the kit over, I'll start adding more comments later in the Static Modeling forum.....

Mine arrived FedEx today from Squadron. No damage that I can see, though the parts bag was slit open and one small item was rattling around in the box. The trees look intact, and the hull seems to fit together without any warpage. See how happy I am? I probably can't get to building it until next fall, however.

p.s. It would be great if one of you u-boat gurus out there with a little 'free' time' could assemble in one place a list of all the little inaccuracies which have been mentioned scattered throughout this thread (and probably others).
