    Dave,

i own both a Taranis X9d and X9e, and while there is an "external" transmitter module socket on both, they are wired up to use the newer generation 2.4ghz modules with telemetry and their own separate antennas. the original JR spec for the 5 pins on the modules has a specific pin designated for the antenna wire coming out of the module, to connect up with the antenna that used to be in the older radios. in the FrSky spec for these radios, that pin is used to get the telemetry data from the module into the radio. It is also a JR shaped socket, so an adapter has to be used for futaba style modules, and that adapter does already exist. there is no "from the factory" way to get a 75mhz antenna connected up with the transmitter.

however, there is absolutely no reason why a little bit of hardware creativity couldn't be done, and a traditional 75mhz (1 meter length) antenna couldn't be mounted somewhere, either on the 75mhz module, or on the transmitter, or on a secondary carrier that the module plugs into, and then the carrier plugged into the transmitter socket, with the real antenna pin from the module directed to that antenna, and the pin from the carrier going nowhere.

none of that needs to be done for the 433mhz modules, they already have their own antennas, and use the antenna/telemetry pin for telemetry.

I too prefer the tray style over the traditional style. there is one niggly problem with the X9e that i am working on fixing, and when that is done, i will be unloading the X9d for a second x9E, as well as getting rid of a pair of Robbe FC-28s that the X9e's should be able to fully replace.
