What paint to replace Floquil ?

I've been using Floquil brand paints for many years, but they are no longer available. What have you folks been using? I am particularly interested in a replacement for Floquil "Weathered Black", which was my hands down favorite for modern nuke boat hulls, as well as deck grey for surface boats Testors Model Masters are very easy to come buy, so anything in the Testors brands that approaches the Floquil Weathered Black color would be terrific. Thanks in advance to all.

    Chuck,

For nukes and the dark gray to represent black, I'd recommend Duplicolor Hot Rod Primer. When burnished with an old t-shirt after drying it takes a nice scale sheen and is pretty darn close to the correct color.

Model Master now has paints to the old WWII code numbers, including the deck colors, flat sea blue for early war and the dark gray that replaced it. Check 'em out!

    B^)

please note that there are two different Duplicolor Hot Rod Primers:

Dupli-Color DAP1698 Black Hot Rod Primer

Dupli-Color DAP1692 Gray Hot Rod Primer

        you will want the DAP1698

Thanks very much to everyone for the quick replies. Still the basic question.....what Testors Model Masters paint flavor comes closest to matching the great Floquil "weathered black" ? I retired to a very rural area of Idaho, with the closest hobby shop about 70 miles from here, so I have to buy everything by mail, largely from Tower Hobbies. Short of buying about a dozen different bottles of paint, and trying them out one by one, there isn't a direct replacement comparison chart that I'm aware of. If anyone knows of a close color replacement by Testors for "weathered black" it would be greatly appreciated. For the first time in my life, I live in a rural area.....and it's a different lifestyle from the San Francisco Bay Area that I spent most of my life in. You couldn't get me out of Idaho at gunpoint, but some simple things like finding a paint color become a challenge. Thanks to anyone that can help.

I had a look on testors site and fs36076 engine gray flat looks like a good starting point
Then i would add a touch of flat black and it looks to to be close to weathered black
If im not mistakin testors bought out floquil years ago? Maybe giving them a call and ask to have it made
Wouldent hurt to ask its not like asking to put 75 mghz radios with 16 channels into production

Maybe this chart might help: https://www.microscale.com/Floquil%20Color%20Chart.pdf

If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

                  Tommydeen,
Thank you VERY much. I'll order several bottles of fs36076 today.....it saves the time and expense (and frustration) of trying to re-invent the wheel one bottle at a time. You done good. Thanks again.

I used google and searched for floquil paint replacement, hope this helps! There are a ton of other references out there, maybe one will hit the mark! Best wishes on this, I miss Floguil.

if you went with 433mhz instead of 75mhz it would have a beautiful color screen... and you would get telemetry too...

that's the new FrSky "Horus x12s", a $500 radio with a JR style module socket in the back... the Taranis' big brother...

                        back to your original thread

along with floquil dying, the local hobbyshop that used to carry all the floquil products will be gone for good friday.

Does that mean it can also except a 75 MHz module? BD

I've been reading the Horus thread on RCG...and it *appears* that this new transmitter will accept the Futaba and Sprectra Hitec modules as well.

But I'm still reading to see if I can get a firm answer on this. May end up posting a question on RCG if I don't find the answer in the existing massive thread.

I had looked into the Taranus X9E a while back as a surface radio option.
I talked to the guy at Aloft and was told they did not see why a 75 MHz module would not work.
There is a spot inside that radio for a second module.
I liked the tray (pizza box) styling of the X9E like our Multiplex. BD
