Possible future build.
Way back in the early 1960's some of the coolest toys were made by a company named Remco.
If you were a wee lad who had submarines on the brain you could not get much cooler than the Barracuda.
It was a good sized toy about 3' long and after adding your 4 D cell batteries it would roll along the floor (Under its own power) and fire missiles, torpedoes, and generally keep the world as we knew it safe from the bad guys.
I was one of the kids that never got one
and had to just dream of taking command.
I guess in the back of my mind from time to time I would think I wonder if it could be made to run in water. Hmmm!
I always thought it was a cool looking sub with kind of a Nautilus, Skate look to it.
It even had a clear plastic top that could be removed to get at the insides.
(Which always warped badly)
I would check the prices from time to time on Ebay.
Mostly astronomical prices. Yikes!
But I would not want to cut up a nice one to modify.
Especially if so much money was spent to Aquire one.
Well at the recent Carmel Subrun there is a swap table for selling hobby items.
I was surprised to see sitting on the table one of the Barracuda toy subs.
It was not in the best shape but not bad for its 55 year age.
A deal was made and now after all these years I have one. Yay!!
Giving the hull a quick look over I don't see why it could not be converted to RC use.
I was thinking that if I could get the deck unwarped with some heat it would be cool to be able to see the cylinder inside. How it's hooked up and works.
Kind of like an operating display model.
Time will tell if I actually get to the project but I thought some may think it was an interesting (Semi-crazy) idea. BD
Here are some photos.
The box photo is not mine. But the other two are.
