Matt Thor......Bravo, bravo, bravo ....good for you ! I purchased a set of end caps from you many years ago, and can only say wonderful things about your customer service as well as the high quality of those end caps (still in use after about 17 or 18 years). Subtech was a great, innovative company, and I'm really glad to see it come home. Thanks for what you have done, and still do.

Thanks very much for the kind words. I was really hoping to keep this all under wraps until we had release the new Pitch Controller, the Subtech APC-7. It will be the smallest, simplest, and most affordable APC on the market. It is in final testing now and should be released in the fall. In addition the Old Subtech Albacore and Marlin kits are still underway to completion. The Marlin kit was front and center and nearing release, but with the discovery that the upper deck was off a bit from true scale it is being reworked. So that leaves the Albacore to be completed and released before the Marlin. Add to that, we will be releasing two new ballast systems that we hope will become the hallmark of the hobby for quality, simplicity, reliability, and affordability. Lots of work to get done!

1) Are either of your two new ballast systems adaptable to a dry hulled sub?

Dan,

Yes to both questions. There will be a membrane based system, and a piston based system. Both in testing right now are driven by brushless peristaltic pumps and are 3" in diameter. I do have one coming up for testing in 2.5", but I am not certain it will go into production. Obviously some slight modifications will have to be made to adapt either to a dry hull, but it certainly can be done without much fuss. I could provide you the ballast tank and the pressure system without the water proof electronics section, if that would make your installation any easier.

I do still have the import agreement in place with Norbert. He is very busy with his family, so the Submarine stuff has taken a bit of a back seat for now. I can get anything you want from him, but expect at least 6 weeks to get it.

How are the molds coming along?

Barbel and Oscar II.

Well, I have yet to collect enough information on the Barbel class to consider constructing a master. The Oscar will get molded up someday. I don't set dates any more. With my insane professional schedule it makes it impossible to stick to any plan. They get done when they are done. There are a few boats ahead of the Oscar II like Marlin, Albacore, and the production ballast systems.

Matt, I purchased and built a Marlin from Skip many moons ago. It was a really good kit, and I am wondering if and when you have any plans to reissue the Albacore. I would like to purchase just the hull kit moldings for Albacore. I will provide all of my own internals, but really like the look of the hull/sail. Any guesses on timelines? I know that you are a very buys guy, so just a WAG would be helpful.

Yes, it is very close to being done. However, it will not be a vacuum formed kit. It is going to be a highly detailed epoxy glass kit.
