    Nick,

    I think it's a Scale

    Nick,

    I think it's a Scale Shipyard 1/48th scale Type IX with a D&E Miniatures WTC-3.5 mod 2 inside it.

Whoever just bought it for $500-something dollars got a good deal!

      I know ! Whats great

I know ! Whats great is that it looks like the WTC has electronics in it. Servos for sure, clearly visable.

I thought it looked like a IXc, but what threw me off was that in one of the pictures the deck shows wave breaker in front of the gun, which I never remember seeing on any IXc's. I looked through several of my U-boat books and could not find one that showed that.

Since you mentioned Scale Shipyard, I went to the site and even the picture that they have does not show a wave breaker. A "technicality" I guess.

      Thanks for the info Jeff

One more thing. The scale shipyard IX is 63". The guy on ebay says his is 76" Thats a pretty big difference.

          Nick,

Well......interesting! I did a couple of quick calculations and the 76 inches listed by the seller doesn't seem to come out to a recognizable Type IX (B, C, or D) in terms of size for either 1/32nd or 1/48th scale.

Based on the size of the WTC and how it fits in the hull, it *looks* like it's a 1/48th scale IX......but now I too am wondering.

            Jeff

I wonder if 32nd parallel produced an IX. I wonder if that is what we are looking at here.

Excellent question....but if they did, it wasn't to scale! (Wouldn't be the first time! )

32nd P never had a IX that I can recall... (Typhoon, Type XXI, yes...)

what about one of our German friends? If the scale works out to be more in the 1/40 range, could it be a European built model?

                    From what I can see,

From what I can see, it is not an Engel IX, the deck is wrong for an Engel, as well as the conning tower.
I wonder is Shaffer made a type IX
