Seriously?!?! What kind of education are these kids are paying tuition for?

    I think I found a post-retirement career: professor of r/c submarines.

Big Dave would set the benchmark time - .015 seconds for that one.

I had to take silly classes, like math... Guess I went to the wrong school!

Knowing BD he'll end up walking thirty miles to school every morning in a blizzard - uphill, both ways. And he'll love it! (Nudge, nudge...wink, wink!)

Guess I'm doing it wrong, or I shouldn't bother looking into Portland State's School of Engineering.

It's all fun and games, until graduation has passed and it's time to go out in the corporate sector, find a job and pay back the student loans.

We see this all the time with our engineering students at the U of R. They have the math but can't connect it to real world scenarios. In the last few years we have been teaching the practical part of chemical engineering and flow control, fluids class, thermal transfer, etc. with hands-on experiments. It seems to have made a world of difference in most cases. You hear things like, oh that's what the calculation solves for, now I get it.
