The German Society of Maryland recently contacted the SubCommittee to spread the word about an open commission they have avalable. The society is seeking an experienced craftsman to create a scale model of the 1916 U-DEUTSCHLAND, the worlds first merchant submarine and the first submersible to ever cross the Atlantic solo. The society also wishes the to-scale model to be at least five feet in length to include interior spaces with a removable side hull.
The project is to be completed by June of 2016, in time for the U-DEUTSCHLAND Centennial. The model will be displayed aboard NS SAVANNAH, the world's first nuclear-powered merchant ship. For more information, please email Walt Mathers: whilrygigger@msn.com.
