    Merriman speaks!

    Antoine,

Glad the photos of my recent scribing work arrived OK. Hope you found them useful. Pictured is the work I performed on the 1/96 SEAWOLF master, a job for Matt Thor. As I described over the phone my task here was to provide Matt a 'supper detailed' hull master from which he could produce a new, upgraded version of SEAWOLF kit.

I've had a long and profitable relationship with Matt and it was a joy to recently get back into the activity of scribing his excellent work. Scribing, Antoine, is the process of engraving fine, exacting lines into the surface of a model or master. These engraved lines represent breaks on the surface representing access hatches, safety tracks, main ballast tank vents, limber holes, flood/drain holes, salvage plates, evasion device penetrations, and the like.

I do so much enjoy working with my peers on these type projects.

I'm assisting Matt with his complete 'redo' of his entire line of r/c submarine hull kits. The intent is to not only make form and detail improvements to the hull pieces, but to also provide his kits with instructional DVD's and other materials that will make his kits more 'user friendly.'

These DVD 'training aids', produced by me, will help explain to the kit-assembler the tasks of painting, weathering, trimming, and operation. The DVD's will not be generic in any way; each will be specific to that particular kit -- the kit assembler will watch as I take him through each step]

    Hi Antoine,

thanks for having submitted the photos of this amazing work done by one of the greatest master of RC submarine model building. Watching my Thor Permit kit or the others of the ThorDesgin line I couldn't simply understand how all the details could be srcibed in. Okay, now I saw this magic
I have a question about the master: is it turned on a lathe from wood, or it's done using a CNC milling machine as Matt says on his site about his new kits?
I'm really happy to see that Dave and Matt are working on DVD tutorials...I think it would surely be the way to get much more people in the world of RC submarining, and it's for sure another way to help unexperienced beginners. (like me!!)
