Did they have a full size mockup of the Red October for surface scenes? If so, was it a real sub or a mockup. Any idea what happen to it?

The one used for the
The one used for the surface shots was actually two barges with a welded on above water line hull and sail. They couldn't take it out in open water to shoot as the Coast Guard wouldn't let them. It was fitted with a ballast system that would let it flood down to decks awash. I beleive it was scrapped soon after filming.

Carcharadon,
I bought a 32Parallel Typhoon submarine from another SubCommittee member a few months ago with plans to accurize the model and set it up for RC. Apparently it was designed to be based on the Hunt for Red October submarine. The stern is just like the movie, but is off from the actual Typhoon.
It's in 1]http://www.rc-sub.com/images/modelpics/typsternview.jpg[/img]
Hull only. You'll need to fabricate the control surfaces. I'll include all of the reference material that I've gathered.

Bob thanks for the response
Bob thanks for the response and pictures. It is a beautiful sub, as is your Nautilus. Judging from the pictures it’s also a large sub. And as tempting as it might be to make an offer for that sub I'm hesitant to go with another large sub over 4 ft. Not to be misunderstood, there is nothing wrong with a large sub but the trade-off is that it's difficult and hard to transport and test etc. I'm just about done with the 7 ft. Nautilus and when finished its just going to sit in the backyard. I might take it out on occasion but my first choice for fun sailing will be the 4 ft version. Thanks again and great pictures.
