Type XXI U-Boat question - anchor?

Does anyone have a picture of what the anchor of a Type XXI may have looked like? Something has to be up under that anchor cover; I've never seen what it looks like in any photo or plan.
    thanks,

are you sure it *is* an anchor cover ?
It was known at the time the u-boats never
    used their anchor.

      Hey Ronald-
I believe that the reason they closed off the drain holes under that cover was so the anchor wouldn't hang up in them as it was released (I can't remember where I read it???)

I believe that the Kohl drawings specifically label that part as the anchor cover....

I've checked all but one of my resources, so far no photos of a XXI with it's anchor sticking out. I just need to find my copy of VOZM to check the last book.

          You can try contacting Deutsches

You can try contacting Deutsches Schiffahrtsmuseum which has the only remaining Type XXI, the U-2540. They can without doubt tell you exactly what you want to know.
