Does anyone have a picture of what the anchor of a Type XXI may have looked like? Something has to be up under that anchor cover; I've never seen what it looks like in any photo or plan.

are you sure it *is* an anchor cover ?
It was known at the time the u-boats never
used their anchor.

I believe that the reason they closed off the drain holes under that cover was so the anchor wouldn't hang up in them as it was released (I can't remember where I read it???)
I believe that the Kohl drawings specifically label that part as the anchor cover....
I've checked all but one of my resources, so far no photos of a XXI with it's anchor sticking out. I just need to find my copy of VOZM to check the last book.
You can try contacting Deutsches Schiffahrtsmuseum which has the only remaining Type XXI, the U-2540. They can without doubt tell you exactly what you want to know.
