Finally got to test drive an RC sub

I went to the cabinfevorexpo where subcomeast was meeting for the month. BigJohn1 let me test drive his thor permit. All can say is wow, that was fun.

He also had a Thor seawolf on display, and that is one impressive kit.

Now comes the hard part, which sub do I want first.

    John,

    When thinking of purchasing your

    John,

When thinking of purchasing your first sub make sure it is something you can build and have in the water in short order.
Save your big project for the second sub. This way you will
have something to run while your building that masterpiece. Also if your like me it will give you some experience in how eveything works.

      I second what Ron says

I second what Ron says about starting small and simple.

I'll wager that a fair percentage of the subs that are started (and have been touted on this board) are stuffed under a bed unfinished or sold on eBay because the builder bit off more than he could chew or afford or both.

Every 20-something who wants to get into RC subs, wants a 5 foot model with videocameras, working torpedoes, launching missiles and an animated captain and crew on the bridge. Of course they have never built any sort of RC boat before and want to do it "cheap".

        I know, I have considering

I know, I have considering the permit as well. I have built some rc cars and a 3 foot Goff Nautilus (static model). I like the building part a lot, so a little challenge is not a big deal.

        Thanks for the feedback.

          Tim,

          I resent the implication!

          I may be 28...
I may have wanted a 66" long Nautilus (even better than 5')...
I may have toyed with the video system that I never got around to installing...
I may never have built any sort of RC anything before...
I may have only wanted to spend $150 to do it all...

But hey... it's almost done and it only took two and a half years and over $1500 to do it!

You can count my vote in on going cheap and easy on the first run. It's been pretty frustrating sitting by the pondside while everyone else runs their boats and I watch pathetically from the sidelines.
