    1/48 Virginia - interest?

    HI everyone,

I was just polling to see if there was interest in a highly detailed 1/48 Virginia. Yes, it is a BIG boat but after we completed it (all epoxy molds and parts) for our client, we thought that perhaps it might be interesting to the SC. The reason is that I am thinking what a gorgeous monster this would be in the water and besides the RC NR-1 we will have after Mystic, I was thinking I would toss it out as an option for those who want BIG boats.

In any case it is just a little balloon I am floating. Molds are done, production ready, parts are all resin (sail as an exception to that) and would require work to ready for RC as the tail surfaces are all one piece. That would bring the price LOWER because we would not do the up front work to ready tail surfaces etc.. you would. If there is sufficient interest I will work up a price. It IS big, at 8 feet but man ... I am even looking to put this one in the water!

Let me know and I will keep everyone posted on Mystic. RC molds are being made in the coming weeks by the way now that static pieces are done and being assembled for our client.

        Once again an awesome boat.

Once again an awesome boat. Are you still thinking of making the NR-1 hull available. If so when do you think it would happen. I'll have to start saving my money.

              Hi Ron,

We are working on TWO NR-1 models.. The first is the one we are doing now which is the 1/72 scale NR-1 display model, and the other is the RC Version for which we already have the hull turned for 32nd scale. [4.6 feet]. We will have that ready after Mystic and will, like Mystic probably have an offering that dovetails Dave Merriman's thrusters and WTC into the kit as well. But that is a bit further along down the line. Right now, the 1/72 public release NR-1 display model and the RC 1/24 DSRV Mystic are our most immediate soon to be offerings.

Again it is just a matter of taking care of the client first and then we will consider the reselling of the kits. We are a bit behind right now and must concentrate on existing delivery for the moment.

Short term you can expect that the public release NR-1 for display will be released first, followed by Mystic. After counting parts on NR-1 by the way, the display model has exactly 86 pieces per model for assembly and will come with EVERYTHING except paint. Laser cut draft markings, logo for NR-1, ocean floor base, with a brass lettered data plate will all be standard in the kit and a pre-sized acrylic cover option will be available as well. It will be a higher end model for sure and for that complexity will be more expensive but its detail is unprecedented. I think we can keep the price attractive. We are still working on final numbers though.

Thanks for the comps on the 1/48 Virginia. We have been quietly working on another related project too... a 1/192 public release version of the Virginia (23.5") which is being molded on Wednesday of the coming week here. We will post some appropriate imagery of them when we can.

So that is what is happening from the shores of Lake Winfield here at FX. I will keep you posted on NR1 as an RC too.

              Marc

                That would look very nice

That would look very nice with my 1:50 Walrus.
If you have I price it may be a boat for me.
